Successful alternative design for a Reinforced Earth® Wall to replace the original design with a bored pile wall at Shenzhen river.

Project 

Reinforced Earth Pacific Ltd has now furnished a successful alternative design for a Reinforced Earth® Wall to replace the original design with a bored pile wall.

Solution

Steel reinforcement thickness has been increased by 1mm (a 45mm x 6mm has been used instead of 45mm x 5mm) giving a sacrificial thickness of 2.5mm instead of 2.0mm as specified by Geoguide 6. This ensures that design life of 120 years is not compromised. Also, a thicker panel with ribs in the front surface as requested by DSD to increase its resistance to accidental impacts from fishing boats or other sea sports activities.

Advantages

Compared to the bored pile wall design, Reinforced Earth® alternative provided a rigid construction procedure and a cost effective solution to the client.
